it is doable... agent smith already done it on his 1.6 SOHC lanos hatch so i don't see why can't you do the same.

allegedly. I have yet to see any proof of this swap.

I do believe it is as do-able as the 2.0 swap which is still a PITA.

ok you are quite right Shaun, we never saw solid proof for that but let me ask this... how different is the 2.2 compared to the 2.0??

i recon it is very little size difference if any at all and either way you are going to fabricate a front engine mount so i guess their is no extra work when doing a 2.2 swap rather than a 2.0.

again you are swapping the ECU in both cases so no extra parts here either... i guess someone mentioned something about the power steering pump but i can't recall what exactly was that all about.

the block is just 1 mm taller...

there're plenty of 2.2 Kadett/Astras in europe...

unfortunally no body has taken it seriosly about this swap. is a shame really.

The "front" engine mount holes on both the 2.0L and 2.2L are exactly the same as on the 2.0L 8V.

Since they are identical you can use a 2.0L 8V Pontiac Lemans engine mount and it will mount to the Lanos engine mount with ZERO modifications.

Now.... the issue is that on these newer 2.0L 16V engines these "front engine mount holes" are used for mounting an aluminum bracket that holds the power steering and A/C compressor.

Remove the power steering and compressor and you have your engine mount for the Lanos.

I've proven this a dozen times over the years.... I've posted pictures of the 2.0L 16V, 2.2L 16V and 2.0L 8V showing the mounting bolts for this swap.

So if you don't care about power steering or A/C it's a super easy swap.

If you want to keep them where they are then you need to fabricate a new engine mount similar to that of the Aveo

is that engine mount similar to the one on the 2.0 8 valve OPEL Vectra??

ummmm... out astras came with 1.6 16v as top of the line engine so i still can't get a confirmation.

can you post a pic of the 2.0L 8V Pontiac Lemans engine mount so i can compare it to our 2.0 Vectra we have here??

Sure.... but there isn't much point.... I allready know it's identical.

I have one 2.2L 16V, Two 2.0L 16V, one 2.0L 8V turbo and one 2.0L 8V N/A and they are all identical.

Here are the pics from the Lanos and 2.0L 8V turbo I posted in Feb 2004
