WOW that sucks, I originally thought that the engines were free wheeling, I have a 92 lemans with the 1.6 and I blew a timing belt....simular situation but what happened with mine was the alternator belt wore a hole in the timing belt cover, then it snapped, got unter the timing belt ant threw it. Anyways I was doing 120km/h and no bent valves, just threw a new timing belt on it and it was good as new!!!! Its strange cause if its not free wheeling then it SHOULD have bent valves. Anyways, sorry about your situation.

Well i just looked it up and the 1.5 and 1.6 are free wheeling but the 2.0 and 2.2 arent.....that would explain why I had no problem

i disagree here... not all 1.5 SOHCs are free wheeling - AKA non interference - the 1.5 SOHC with compression ratio 9.5:1 is an interference engine so as the 1.6 DOHC and the 2.0 DOHC... no idea about the 2.2 though.

Sorry if my info was wrong.....i was just going by what the internet told me(which isnt always right :) , here are the sources i used:

http://www.skillcentre.com/daewoo.html
http://autorepair.about.com/library/ts/ ... elts-1.htm
http://cylinderheadsupply.supersites.ca ... ceengines/

But obviously there can be exceptions to the rules since engines can have varied compression ratios

yeah... that same issue was discussed by me and Tango as he has a 1.5 SOHC just like me but he has8.5:1 compression ratio as i remeber and i got 9.5:1... his engine is a non interference engine while mine is an interference one, kinda hard to beleve if you are not aware of the copression ratio difference.

Well, my car has been running for about a week now since all the repairs and I found out some more crap. After the head was rebulit, new belts put in place, new timing cover (since my old one was was cracked open), and new gaskets installed, all was well for a few days until the alternator belt broke.

Yes, it was a brand new alternator belt that was installed less than a week ago and it broke. Evidence shows that it was apparently grinding on something (no one knew it was grinding because you couldn't hear it). Rubber was spread all over the engine bay. The next morning a colleague and I replaced the broken belt and discovered the culprit. There was a piece of a broken belt (not the one that just broke) that was stuck in the A/C clutch that possibly was making contact with the alternator belt that it supposedly broke. Now, I am pretty sure my A/C is trashed because it was a bitch to get that belt piece out and ever since we did, it is making this strange clanking sound. This broken belt should have been removed by the mechanics at the shop that told me the horrible (and unbelieveable) news that most of my valves were bent in the freak accident. My car hates me, yet I still love it. :( I want a Lanos Sport! I'll keep this Woo for parts if I do get my hands on a Sport model.

BTW, the piece of belt that was stuck in the A/C clutch was an alternator belt. I clearly saw that the one that had just broke and the piece that supposedly broke it had different part numbers. :? Are you as confused reading this as I am writing it. The shop that told me what was wrong with my car and why it happend, had to have lied. They said "the alternator belt slipped off its pulley (not broke off), slammed through the timing cover, and knocked my timing off major degrees causing nearly all of my valves to bend and crack the head." I guess they lied because they couldn't get the broken alternator belt out of the A/C (believe me it was a BITCH to get out). Those bastards.
