less understeer ?

Post by jez »

I remember reading a while ago that the best improvement you can make to a Lanos is to get a rear swaybar made up to lessen understeer and generally make the car handle better.. is this the way to go ? Or perhaps another (cheapish) route ?

That's true. The easiest way to dial out understeer from a car is to stiffen the rear suspension in some way. Volkswagen dialed in rear-wheel lift on the Corrado and got in return the best handling front drive car ever made. Because the rear suspension used a torsion beam and anti-roll properties tuned in, the inside rear wheel tended to lift during cornering. What then happened was the outside wheel was left to tend to the cornering forces/weight all on it's own...the result: the rear end came around! Instant over-steer and could be controlled with the throttle too. But a word to the wise. This is NOT necessarily a good thing...if you can't handle oversteer! If you want nice, neutral handling you can use a less agressive setup...As to which is best for that, I have no clue. Info for our cars is so lacking....we need R&D labs...fer sho!! But Chris from Daewootech.net had some rear strut-bars that no doubt help in that department.
Cogito ergo sum...
