engine swap: Calibra 2.0 16V '92 to Lanos DOHC1.6, 2001...
I think I will do this swap. I have found calibra, guy was on his top with. Car is totaly crashed, but engine and other parts needed for swap are fine.
So, this engine should be c20xe. And gearbox should be F20. Right?
What problems can I have with this swap?
Can I use brakes from Calibra and put it on Lanos?
My lanos have ABS, power steering, and clima. I think that Lanos have 1 ECU for engine and ABS. Calibra on the other hand have 2 ECU-s, one for engine and one for ABS. How will I do this wireing?
Is it possible to use lanos 1.6 ECU on c20xe?

Well.... it's probably a C20XE with an F20 but you had better make sure.... can you get some engine/tranny pictures from the guy?
Too bad it wasn't a C20LET (2.0L 16V turbo) with an F28 (6speed AWD)
You need to research Astra MkII conversions as this is the same as the Lanos chassis.
You will need the front engine mount from an 2.0L Astra MKII (europe/uk) or 2.0L Pontiac Lemans (north america)
Wiring is the main issue.... the C20XE should be nearly self sufficent with respect to engine wiring..... there should only be a couple of wires to hook up.
I would keep the Lanos ECU in place to run the ABS and all the other systems such as the tachometer.
You will need to keep the Lanos drive shafts and the lanos brakes..... the Calibra uses a totally different bolt pattern (among other things)
If you want to upgrade you should talk to Tom@360D as he's very familiar with Astra MKII and Lanos brake systems (where as I am not)
Basicly... If I were you and all you want is a C20XE.... I would keep the stock D16 tranny of the Lanos.
The F16/D16 are nearly identical to the F20/D20 ..... the 20 series have stronger internal parts.
Externally.... they mount up exactly the same.
The problem with using an F20 is that the clutch is cable driven and your lanos uses a hydraulic system (which is the main difference between the F20 and D20 )
You could convert it over but that might be a pain.... I don't know as I haven't done any research on what is involved in converting from cable to hydraulic ( or vise versa)

The rear suspension of the Calibra is entirely different. It is independent and the Lanos is a live-axle setup. I would suggest you find a rear suspension from a GTE or GSi Astra if you want to fit discs. Otherwise you can fit larger front rotors and calipers to get better braking in the front. I swapped my Daewoo rear end for an Astra GTE and I had no difficulty at all. The brake pedal on my automatic needed some adjustment, but that adjustment caused the brake switch to be out of allignment and in turn caused problems with my torque convertor locking up. <sigh> Such is my life!
Cogito ergo sum...

Thank you guys. So, the clutch can be a problem. But, don't you think that C20XE will brake my tranny?
I suspected, that there would be a problem with ABS ECU. Because, Lanos have one ECU for ABS, engine, and other stuff.
Calibra on the other hand have ECU for engine, ECU for ABS, and so on...
So, my thinking was to put both of calibra ECU, for engine and ABS. But I don't know if ABS ECU will fit to my ABS box.
The other thinking was to leave my ECU. But what about instrument table. What about temperature instrument, and kmph and rpm instruments. Where will they be connected...
And the last option is to leave ECU from lanos (it's 1.6 DOHC nearly the same to c20xe except for MAF) and connect lanos ECU to c20xe engine. I would use MAP witch is better then MAF. But I'm not shure that it would have correct engine maps, and that the engine will run smoothly just like with calibra engine ECU...
What is your opinion...
About engine mounts. Can't I use mine? What mounts are we talking about? Right one, rear one, or left one on tranny, or all three?
And at last. If I use my tranny (this is gear box, right?), what about clutch and stuff?

you can use your trans... it's bound to hold up to I believe the area of 180 Ft. Lbs. of torque. I don't know what it is Metric, (Can't remember, is it Newton Kg?) I miss physics.
Your transmission... clutch/flywheel should be fine, but if you're going far enough to customize the engine you could always lighten the flywheel and get a stage 1-2 clutch system.

180 ft lbs?
Tom's F16 managed to withstand 250 ft lbs for quite some time without any issues.
His main reason for upgrading to an F20 was to get the gear ratios he wanted.
Even with the C20XE fixed up ... your stock manual tranny should do just fine.
I think Efrain is running an F16 with his C20XE (correct me if I'm wrong)

moin,
i drive the F20 with hydraulic clutch in my nexia. i think the lanos have the same system, so you only have to change 2 part from the f20.
check that you don?t get a c20xe with immobilizer. i don ?t know how important for you are the airbag. you will lose it if you change the ECU.
you need a fuelpump. your old is maybe not strong enough. i drive one of a astra c20xe. this is an in-tank pump, so you only have to change it, without rebuild for a out-tankpump.
you need!!! bigger brakes. at the rear disc brake. the opel drum brake were free until 180HP. but i don?t know, for what the lanos drumbrake are good for. so better you use the discs....
the biggest problem you will have, is the wiring. i have connected the daewoo and the opel cable at the X5-connector (opel). the connector lies in ne near of the battery (round connector). so i didn?t change the fuse-box. without the wiring diagram of lanos and the calibra, you don ?t have to start this mission. okay, i have to say, to swap a XE from a kadett into a nexia will be easier, than into a lanos. i already saw a XE in a lanos, but it was a rally-lanos. you know...
sorry for my english, but i give my best. the same procedure at each posting
btw: mister_g, you owe me an ice. my is smelted during i write here

Thank you all for answers.
Here is what I think. I have D16, same like F16 but with hidraulic clutch. I was thinking leaving my tranny, D16. Only if I can use that hidraulic cylinder and put it on F20, then I will change it.
Starter, alternator, and power steering, I will use from 20XE. I will try to put in my clima.
I will leave my ECU for ABS and airbags and kmph table, and use c20xe ECU for fuel managment, and everything connected to C20xe...
