I need some advise for a small project

I was looking to install a firebird throttle body with an air intake to it.

I was also wanting to install some bigger fuel injectors, possibly 255cc - 300cc injectors.
I was talking with a friend the other night trying to get some HP for not too expensive and he said if i did the work myself it would only be around 200$ for the parts.
He thinks my stock injectors are about 155cc so 255cc - 300cc would be plently.

Those two things right there should give me some HP eh? Now i just need to figure out where the fuel injectors are and how to remove my throttle body and what fuel injectors will fit on my car / throttle bodys.

I have a 1991 Pontiac LeMans LE Sedan 1.6L fuel injected.

If anyone could help me with any of the things listed above, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

look in the how to section for TB and injectors removal, it is wrote for the 1.5 SOHC but nost of the steps will work for the 1.6 DOHC

why larger injectors? i my be drunk but ..... unless your running boost a larger tb wount add that much that you would need almost double the injection rate. i know the 1.6 has a small tb but that wount need that much injection. here a site that should help with picking injectors or finding current.

that large of an injector would cause you to run rich, unless you plan on running a low psi or correcting with a aftermarket unit those injectors would cost you more power than what your gaining, rember more fuel doesnt mean more power.

I doubt that you will get much power out of changing your Throttle body injection system..... I'd bet the only thing you will get is worse gas mileage.

Personally.... I think it will be hard to do much with that old 8V TBI 1.6L.

Have you ever considered dropping on the 16V head onto your old 1.6L?

Better yet.... drop in a Lanos DOHC 1.6L.... it will bolt in there with no problem.... you would need the complete engine with ECU and wiring harness.

You could easily double your current horsepower and get significantly better gas mileage with the newer system.

From an emissions standpoint you are in the clear.... the new engine should produce way less emissions than your old 1.6L.

If you want to get really adventurous do the C20GET turbo 8V 2.0L conversion.

I will have a Lemans in a few weeks with this conversion allready done.... and Tom (360 Dynamics) has a Lemans converted over to a "GSi Turbo" as well.

I wasn't planning on dropping a whole new engine in it.

I just need to get about 100 more HP onto this one without spending alot of $$

Good idea though...any more ideas?


Oh, and does anyone know where the fuel filter and fuel injectors on this 1.6 are?

100 more hp and a small project?? I'd say you probably will have to turbo the car or throw a nitrous oxyde in there.

I say turbo it.. only way you'll get that much hp w/o spending lots of money and having a car that doesnt run well on the street. Especialy with a 1.6.. whats it make now, 100? you wanna double the hp output?

Not if you get the parts from him.. doubt you could get out that cheap. Some of the parts yess.

If you do alotta research and learn alot about it you could get most of your parts from the junkyard and build a really good (effiecient.. good power) for like 1,300.
