Daewoo died in Egypt

Post by nefary »

NO more Daewoo in Egypt. that what I informed today.the old daewoo motor egypt factory sold to GM egypt to produce the Aveo & Optra. the production line will continue with the Lanos & Nubira until the parts avaliable end.then the factory will turn to produce chevy. I am too sad for that . but that what is avaliable
I saw the new cars today . Under the hood I see a label ( GM DAEWOO) that is the only sign said that this a daewoo related product!!!
the Optra avaliable here with 1.6L engine
the Aveo avaliable with 1.5L engine
I hope that I will buy aN Optra when I took the decision of buying a new car. it is a great car realy. but the I dont know why the version avaliable here have a not complete accessories eg( front power windows only)

i heared the sad news too :(

a friend of mine got the prices and they are 90,000 LE for the Optra 1.6 and 75,000 LE for the Aveo.

the Optra price seems OK and i recon it will get higher as the demand increase, it is a really fine car as my friend told me, it is spaceous and well built and i recon it is going to rule.

as for the Aveo it is not going to make it with that price, come on a 75 thou. for that little car?? is is totally out of proportin, i could buy me a decent '03 lanos and pimp her out and kick the Aveo ass any day of the week. i recon that price won't hold too long and will drop fast.

no words yet on the Lacetti or Optra5 or whatever they named her in here.

Sounds like Jamaica gets it's Chevrowoos (Daewolets?!?) from Egypt, because we have a similar situation heer with equipment and pricing. 1.6L Optras have come with front power windows only, though the dealer tells me that for 2005 that has changed. The Aveo has also been priced quite close to the Optra (JM$1.2M with airbag for the Aveo, and JM$1.3M for the 1.6L Optra).

We don't get the 5 or 3 door Aveos neither do we get the 5 door Optra. I am told that GMDAT is very laxed in what they send to us, sending any colour and any spec they feel like. That's bullsh!t. But I have advice for them. When I order my Optra they had better get the specs correct or EVERYBODY in the world's gonna hear about Tango!

I saw yesterday at chevy dealer the new Matiz. it named ( Spark ) . it will be avaliable @ 2006 . the price not presented yet. the car has a new strange design . the extreior is good for the front. but I didn't like the tail lights. the interior is strange for a Matiz . the center meters with a small tacho (looks like the mercedes S class style) .also the car has a good space for an adult person.
So no more talking about new daewoos here . it is all chevy. I hope that I will buy one and re padge it to daewoo

I still don't understand the attachment to the Daewoo logo.... it allways was a GM product and I really don't see how anything has changed outside of the name.

When it comes right down to it.... what did Daewoo make??

The chassis, suspension, engine, transmission, electronics system were manufactured by GM Europe and GM Australia ( Opel/Holden)

The body was designed by that Italian dude.... so "Daewoo" was just a series of assembly plants putting together GM manufactured parts.

If GM hadn't given up their share of Daewoo a few years back there would not have been any difference and the Daewoo name would have been the same as it was back then.

Sorry if I piss people off with this attitude but it was a multinational car with parts from all over the world.... and to this day the GM-DAT cars are made in the same way.

Even the new ones like my Optra 5 have ties with other GM platforms.

So other than the fact that Holden makes the decisions these days instead of some Korean guy that stole a few hundred million (or was it Billion??) I don't see a difference.

Anyways.... sorry to hear about the death of the Lanos.... but the Optra is superior in almost every way.

A lot has changed in Jamaica. For the worst it seems. The new local dealers GM-Challenger has a bunch of lackies working for them as sales reps, and I have serious doubts about the competence of their technicians. Before, Island Motors was the local dealer and the level of professionalism and competency was superior in every respect. Because of the bullshit I discovered at GM-Challenger, I will not be buying ANY of the new models as long as they are selling them. I've sent an email to GM already informing them that they have lost a customer because of their decision to move the dealership. I love the brand and support it whole-heartedly, but I fear that Daewoo (in whatever form they are sold here) may be dead in the water because of these jokers.

Yeah GM Daewoo died over here in Australia, but now they are bringing them back from the dead and naming them Holden Barinas, which have been an incredibly good seller for holden, so I see a bright future for the cars over here in OZ.

i am not 100% sure of this but i got a peice of info. saying that the new cheveys (optra and aveo) are not doing that well here at least compared to GM's expectations and their is an idea that they will rebadg the cars to be Daewoos again

that is exactly what i was thinking... daewoos are like gold here and people buy them without asking twice... on the other had cheveys are not that popular and people are very cautios when buying cars and they all feel like trying a brand new product... when the Daewoo badge is put on them car it will automatically put 7 years of good, solid experiance to the cars and they will sell like hell.

i hope this news is correct as i hate to see daewoos selling as cheveys... OK they are all under GM's umbrella but still i love to see a daewoo logo on a daewoo rather than hiding under chevy's or suzuki's badge.

LMFAO! That would be great, unfortunatley some people would probably be like "When did my car become a... Daewoo? Well, time to trade it in."
