Engine Mount

My lanos tends to vibrate more these days during idling, such as waiting at the traffic light.

My friend told me that it might be the engine mounting required to be replaced. I was told that it is common for a Daewoo to replace engine mount within three years !!

Is that easy to do ? I heard you need to lift up the entire engine. ?

you can do it with the engine in place... as long as you support it from the bottom with a jack or with a lift to support it from above.

i just got mine replaced few days earlier... the mounts were on the car for over 7 years and a bit under 69000 kms so the three years thing is far from correct.

it depends on how you drive the car... i broke mine because i did too much wheel spin while engaging second gear so the engine mounts had to deal with lots of load each time i shoft to second till they broke.

as for doing it... yes it is easy but you got to support the engine/tranny during the process or the engine/tranny could fall down... you basicly have three mounts one on the front of the engine(were the belts are) and the other two are at the tranny case, one close to the radiator and the other is near the fire wall.

i've seen solid welded mounts on drag cars... the torque load is insane, but i don't reccomend it for a street car... you can end up doing damage to the sub-frame of the car.

your best bet is to use the urethane filled mounts offered by 360 or make your own

if someone had a set of newish OEM mounts... i would gladly make a ceramic mold and then pump out solid urethane mounts for the woo. both of my sets are old and wouldn't be plyable enough

what hardness urethane would be used??

i was wondering because you can get a urethane rubber kit for about 10$ but what hardness is best?

How do you know if you have broken or badly worn engine mounts? My car still feels smooth and doesnt vibrate but i guess i should know?

basicly it will feel funny as you throw in 1st gear as some of the engine torque is beeing used to torsin the engine... my mechanic told me to try to move the car with the hand brake applied and he was watching the engine for excessive movements.

he also said that their is no 100% effective way to know if they are bad unless you take them out for throughout inspection... this is why i bought all 3 mounts just in case and ended up putting all three on the car.

I don't think that your problem is related with the mounts. The mounts do not avoid the vibrations. The vibration at idle could be spark plugs/cables/management related.

How old are you plugs, cables??
