new Headunit

Post by kinkyllama »

Well I found out my audio buzzing was my h/u... well at least when I hooked up the RCAs to my friends car there was no buzzing. Anyways, most h/u put out 22watts rms x4... im woundering if you only wire up two speakers can you get 44watts rms or what? Im not familiar with h/u but im guessing not.

Also anyone wanna recommend a h/u? also how much it is. I really dont need alotta features but I need something nice, sirius satelite ready, and the hardest part is it needs to have two aux or more(do any h/u have this?) hookups in the back... one for sirius radio brain and the other for an mp3 player (not ipod). The newer sirius brains have an extra hookup that you could hook an mp3 player up too but my older one doesnt and I dont wanna spend 80$ for a new one. I'm looking at kenwoods right now cuz i've had good luck with them.. also whats HD radio?

Danny

PS.. hopfully this makes sense... im very very heavyily medicated as im leaving shortly to get 6 or more root canals done  wish me luck

Here is a nice Pioneer for $115 that has XM and Sirius tuner controls, MP3 and WMA playback.

If you have a specific price range in mind, let me know what it is and I'll find something. :)

I dont really have a price range in mind. I really dont think the nicer decks are worth the money.. the options that a $200 deck has over a $100 doesnt seam worth the extra money to me. The only option i use on my current deck is the bass.. but once my subs are in i'll probably keep it at one setting for most things.

Although now that im looking at it the CD Signal-to-Noise is different among the decks price ranges. Would I notice 104db over 94? Also does that work for the aux input? I'm leaning towards a cheaper deck but my friends say since I have a nice car I shouldnt get a cheapy deck.

On and another thing is It needs to be mostly blue lite up to match the car.

Danny

*edit.. also is it possible to change songs and rw/fw on an mp3 play from the h/u. I know alotta decks support these features for an Ipod.. but i like regular mp3 players (Iriver to be exact) much better than an ipod

I think im getting that one.. new it was 190 and my friend just got a kenwood h/u for the same price from them that i love (way more options than i need though) and this ones a bit better for only 140. *edit.. i just noticed its on back order.. i dont see how an open box special can be on backorder but i figure if they sold it then they'd just take it off*

So whats the debate about not putting in rear speakers and how it ruins a sound stage unless you have a REALLY nice h/u? I think I wanna put some decent speakers in the rears and have the h/u power them. Since the h/u puts out 22watts rms x4 will it put out 44rms x 2?

thats actually the same HU my sister bought for her Kia... It's nice it actually made her stock speakers sound great because it let her choose what type of setup she had in the car... The remote is a bit bulky though, but i never did understand a remote in a car where you can just reach over 1 foot and be able to touch the controls... I guess it's for the back seat?

the car steroe remote is the greatest iventon ever! you end up learning the remote so well you never take our eyes off the road to mess wth the stereo, its also nice when you see a cop and have to pause the loud bass so you dont get a noise polution ticket (which ive never gotten [one of those tickets])

Almost all head units are between 14 and 20 watts RMS output per channel, except for the REALLY cheap ones that are about 6 watts RMS and claim to produce 280 watts!
