Finally after almost 4 months of weekend work I got the cylinder head back o the car, a 2000 lanos 1.6.
once the timing belt was on I wanted to see if it worked so I started the car without the timing cover.
The car runs great but there seams to be an oil leak on to the timing belt is this normal or do I have a problem with the valve cover seal or the camshaft bearing?
Oil on the Timing belt

can the oil be due to overfilling of oil,
I put a full 4 quarts of oil into the oil filler 3 hrs before I started it.
I dont see any leaks at the head gasket
the only 2 places seem to be the valve cover gasket or the oil pump but ther is no reason for the oil pump to leak.
Do I need to change the belt once I clean everything up?

I would change the belt when you're done cleaning it up... Also... the 1.6 doesn't take 4 quarts of oil... that's too much.hands-on wrote:can the oil be due to overfilling of oil,

1.6 takes about 3.75 liters of oil.
only sourced of oil at the timing belt are: cam cover, oil pump and power steering pump.
it is advisable to replace the belt as oil eats up rubber.
