I have a 2000 Daewoo Lanos (manual trans) that I autocross on the weekends and my car has 62,xxx miles on it. I plan on putting synthetic fluid in it.
Can you all give me a crash course on how to change my trans fluid.
What is the capacity in the F16?
What weight viscosity?
Do I need to buy any gaskets or anything?
TIA
How to change my transmission fluid?

I went ahead and replaced the fluid. There is a drain plug, right above the passenger axle. I put 1 and 8/9ths 75w90 Mobil One Synthetic. There was quite a bit of metal shavings nut luckily the Lanos transmisssion plug has a built in mahnet to collect the powder shavings.
Runs a bit smoother now.

My Lanos is not at my house right now, so I can not quote it's manual, but I have my Leganza's manual to use, just as a reference.
It says:
Personally, I like to change the regular oil to synthetic.
Cliff
It says:
Although the manual does not reccomend a change of the manual gear oil, I always change mine just to get the metal particles out that were in there from when it was manufactured. For the Leganza:
Automatic transaxle fluid:
Capacity 7.4 ~ 8.0 quarts (7.0 ~ 7.6L)
Change every 60,000 miles (96,000 km).
Under severe conditions: 30,000 miles (48,000 km)
Manual transaxle oil:
Capacity: 1.9 quarts (1.8L)
Check every 12,000 miles (19,200 km) or every year.
Refill if necessary.
A fluid change is not necessary.
Personally, I like to change the regular oil to synthetic.

I used a syphon pump to retrieve all of the fluid out of the bottom of the sump. Then I used it to put the synthetic in. Worked great!Wolf-Spirit wrote:thats a filling plug as far as i know?
