Lanos was 1600 Turbo - going 2 litre N/A
Hi guys.
did ask this elsewhere, but thought it best to start my own topic.
1600 16v Lanos.
TD04 Running 0.5-0.7 bar boost (.5 = 7 Pounds I think)
20 thou over bore
I broke the Opel / Vauxhall pistons within 40kms, so I def need so better pistons
All the sites I have found, have Honda pistons starting at 81mm - thats 80 thou. doesn't leave musch room for the head gasket to work.
Any ideas on where to get decent pistons ?

Ah !!!!! NO
Flange is made out of 25mm thick (1 inch brother) 304 Stainless steel, it warped slightly during the welding up process, so has now been skimmed to a pretty decent 22mm - I think its thick enough !
The bracket for the coil pack is hidding the rest of it in the photo.
Car was really potent ..... for about 20 minutes. How's about wheel spin in third gear just after 60km/h if you floor it. Thats the reason I need good pistons
Where can I get ?

Forged pistions for the 1.6L are available from two different companies.... Wiseco makes an 8.8:1 compression for this engine at around $449 USD per set (no rings ) and they are available in 79mm, 79.5mm and 80mm
Go to http://www.importperformanceparts.net/ and click on Opel.... then Pistons and then Wiesco pistons for the application data
I think the price for the other supplier (I forget the name) is around $600 but they can machine the pistons to whatever compression you want.... unfortunatly they only make them in 81mm diameters.... but they are rated for 400bhp

Thanks - I will take a look at the site.
Oh and here is a better shot of the manifold - All 304 Stainless but didn't bother polishing it up - just wanted teh car on the road as soon as possible.

Totally bummed
I must admit to being totally bummed at the moment.
Did all the right things to make a really nice beast of a motor, complete management system, RRFPR, 320cc injectors, stainless braided hoses for both oil and water, an expensive BMC filter, silicon re-enforced boost hoses and silicon vacum hoses, and then I put stock pistons from an Opel in. Only cost me 900 South African Rand +- US$120. They were all that was available locally.
Car was so so strong as all the other ingredients were just perfect.
Hopefully my budget (overdraft Haha) will stretch to import those Wiseco pistons from the states.
Must admit it was great to find the site.

Would love to go the whole hog, ie the rods and pistons, but budget is almost all gone and our terrible African exchange rate compared to the Dollar just makes it even worse. try nearly R8-$1
in fact the Wiseco pistons are looking out of my grasp at the moment, (Landed here its over half a months salary) I might have to get a set of genuine Daewoo ones. the std ones that came out of the motor didn't have the slot behind the oil groove like the Opel ones, they used small drillings, so hopefully the 20 thou ones are made the same way - will one be able to get to check them out on Friday. Keeping fingers crossed.
I know a couple of guys in Johannesburg that actually use the Daewoo connecting rods in their Turbo charged Opel Corsas and swear that they are way stronger than the Opel ones.
Will get some more photos as soon as get the motor back together. - aint much to look at, at the moment. ha ha.
also have to change the standard plastic pipe that connects the last boost pipe to the inlet manifold, it wasn't really desined to take boost, also on its way is a new fule pump as the original one can't deliver enough juice over 4000 rpm.
All fun though. And all at a fraction fo the price of a Golf GTI!!

To big
The 2.0 Pistons are unfort to big for the 1600.
The problem I had with the local KS pistons was the slot machined out behind the oil groove, they do this because its much easier to machine this that to drill individual holes and apparently helps with quieter running. NOT GOOD for turbo use as the crown then flexed and snapped the ring lands.
The original Daewoo ones that came out had the drilled holes, I am hoping the 20thou ones are the same, but will only find out on Friday - keeping fingers crossed because those Wiseco are just tooooooo costly.
I will get some photos of the bust pisotns this weekend and post them.
