hard driving = better mpg

Post by daewoomofo »

every one always says the if you drive easy on your car you will get better fuel economy. but in my woo it seems that i get better fuel economy (and more fun) if i drive it harder. if i go easy i get about 21 mpg city, if i drive hard i get 23 mpg city. can any one explain this? im not complaining, im just wondering

maybe that your car is sucking too much air at lower revs and speeds, and when u cram the air in be driving it hard, it might actually match fuel and air? b

but besides my comment, i dunno, its always been the opposite to me?

There are lots of things to consider. For example in winter I get 28mpg... in summer it's like 22mpg. Depends on the weather and so many other factors.

i notice that too at times, i say because you get to your crusing speed faster, so it like a slower gradual things is not so open so long but a short burst open i guess works out less overall open time.

haha maybe whenever you feel like "having fun" in the car, you're alone. And when you take it easy you have someone else in the car with you. So weight wise you are saving gas by being alone in the car even though you do drive it hard.

no no igor it takes two to "have fun" lol. its been really hot here in detroit and i got 24 mpg (driving hard) i have a sri (might go back to the cai) so its always getting hot air (bad i know) it just makes no sence. and the only other person i ever have in the woo is my g/f birttany, and i drive exactally the same with her as i do alone (maybe worse [we are always running late]) this makes no sence to me

it does not make sence indeed... i have always consumed fuel as much as a 2.0 nubira driven sensably with my 1.5 lanos driven hard.

enjoy it while it lasts.

You get better mileage due to better energy density 90 octane gasoline then 92. Higher energy density - >more energy per litre(kg) -> better mileage.

you are right indeed but i am experiancing this the other way arround... 90 octane gives BETTER milage than 92.

i get better with low octane also. there is a local gas station that will sell regular and mid-grade for the same price so i still some times get mid just to change it up a lil bit

It was my mistake. I mean energy density of 90 octane is higher then 92 octane gasoline despite octane number.
