Exhaust wraps

is it a good idea to wrap the exhaust header and pipes up to the first exhaust box?? what i am aming for is reduce engine bay temp by preventing too much heat readiation from the header and also i have heard that hot exhaust flows better so i will get better flow as well.

what do you think guys? is it worth doing? any recommendations?

I did the cast iron header up to the first flange. You can do this and still keep the stock heat shield.
This reduced tempreatures quite a bit under bonnet in NA form!

Benefits? It felt quicker at the time but that may have been psychological

It did reduce temps so that will be good for the engine.

I have heard some say that wrapping the steel exhaust pipes can cause the pipes to crack because of the heat up and cool down. I havent heard any bad things about wrapping the cast iron headers though... I'd recommend it.

There is something taht I was recommended over exhaust wrap. Its some sort of paint... I can dig it up if you want the name or even try a search as I talked about it before. According to audacity and several people over at the local road race forum it seams like a better idea, at least for turbo-charged cars.

The paint on stuff I have is supposed to be better than ceramic coat...cuz thats what I was going to do at first

well other paints for heat use ceramic

it can hold and resist more heat than other heat paints

I did it before in my Starlet and the header got cracked from the heat. I think better is to have vents on the hood to let the hot air out.
