Lanos 1.6 and Aveo 1.6 thermostat: interchangable?

Post by TheGreatAndPowerfulOz »

Does anyone know if the Aveo 1.6 thermostat housing will fit a Lanos 1.6?

The thermostat housing finally broke on my Lanos after 70,000 miles, which was a nice long life for that part.

I just want to know if I can run to the local Chevy dealer and buy that part, or do I have to go about an hour and a half to the Daewoo dealer to pick one up?

Thanks!!

Ok guys ... got the details:

The Lanos and Aveo thermostats are interchangeable.

At the Chevy dealer, after tax, the Aveo one was $17.17, but for the plastic one just like on my Lanos. The same kind that break.

The metal one for the '07 Aveo, after tax was $83.44.

The day after my thermostat broke, I repaired it so it could be used until the new one arrived; here are the pics:

I have the new one, but have not yet installed it, so for now, I am driving with the repaired one in place.
If the repaired one breaks, I have the new one, pliers, wrenches and pre-mixed coolant in the car so I can do a side-of-the-road repair if necessary. :)

very nice work OZ... i think every one can do the same idea for their current plastic housings to avoid any unplesant surprizes.

Remember to add PLENTY of epoxy in the screw holes!!

Because I didn't have enough in the screw holes the first time, it was leaking.

I had to remove the thermostat again, fill the screw holes with epoxy, put the screws back in and then seal around each end of the screw holes and screws/nuts with more epoxy.
Since then, everything is working perfectly! :)

My replacement housing arrived today. I ordered one of the plastic ones. I would like to replace it with a metal one perhaps... but not for that price. heh

Anyone happen to know what they're talking about when they say, "Coat the sealing surface of a new O-Ring seal with Lubriplater"... What is Lubriplater? Or what should I use around the O-ring seal?

to tell you the truth i didn't use any kind of lubricator or anything. just stuck the o-ring in place and tightened the whole thing. but then again my old woo didn't last too much longer after that, maybe like four months but as everyone know not b/c of the thermastat.
