That is correct. I own a tuning shop (there are some pics on General Off-topic), so it's not so much dificult to find parts (for woo's that's another story, so many parts are made by myself).
Tuning here on Terceira is very strong (even with many legal problems), in part because we have here a USA military base (Lajes Field), so we have some american cars unique on Portugal, and perhaps it is inspiring.

Sorry if I'm getting off topic.... I guess with a USA military base there it probalby makes it easier to get stuff since they would have boats and planes moving stuff on and off the island all the time.

Well, we also have weekly boats and daily planes for the mainland, so it's not that difficult tho get new stuff, except when the weather dont help.

One of the Lanos I purchased arrived via train today.... just have to go pick it up.

I will probably be doing some custom stuff like the covers and was curious if you or others had interest since most of the time is making the first prototype... then from there it's easy to copy a bunch.

I personally like stainless steel.... easy to form and weld.... you can polish it or sandblast it to give a frosted texture.... or paint it.

The big thing is that stainless will not rust.... so your parts last forever.

thats not true. in most circumstances it wont rust, but i cant tell you how many times i have seen stainless rust at my work. its very (and i mean VERY) uncommon but it can rust. i do agree that it is great for most (including automotive) uses, its just a PITA to plate.

Yes... you are correct.... there are circumstances where stainless will rust.... but it depends on the series.

My oilfield manufacturing company purchases about $35,000 worth of stainless a year.....mostly small diameter cold rolled bar and seemless tubing.... 304L and 316L

It's pretty rare that we see rust.... and we use it in mild to meduim chemical environments
