Well looks like my mate did a bit of work on the Woo whilst I was at work yesterday, and i thought I was only able to finish the rebuild this Saturday.

The motor is running again, and so far without the oil mist steaming out of the breathers !! thats good.

There is another guy here in SA (Danny boy- he has posted on here as well) running a Woo engine in his Opel Corsa boosting at 1.5 bar and his std Woo pistons lasted for over two years. thats a good sign for my planned 0.5-0.7 bar boost.

The current Dictator management system is only running a base map at the mo until the motor is run in, then it has to be sent back to the dyno. Currently it seems a tad bit thirsty. :)

fortunatly I do 120km per day so i should be able to run the beast in pretty quickly.

Keep your fingers crossed that she holds together this time guys.

Took the Woo to work today for the first time.

Used nearly a quarter tank for 60kms, I think the base map on the Dictator management system needs some tweeking. But not much point in playing until the motor is run in, then I can get it on the dyno and set up properly.

Turbo starts to spool from 2500rpm, which is really awesome.

Pics to follow.

As most of you may know, the second set of pistons (Std Daewoo) lasted all of 300 km.

Turns out the actuator was broken and not activating the waste gate. Over boosting fried the pistons again.

Next up was another set of Woo pistons on the 1.5mm shortened conrods AND a 1.6mm deck plate. Oh and, fix the actuator (Stuck in a big spring that only allowed 0.5 boost :)

Motor ran for over 10,000kms, it did smoke a tad, but seamed to work OK.

I took advice from this thread in the forum and ordered a set of 8.8-1 forged pistons from Import Performance Parts just before Christmas with the intention of building up the spare motor "just in case"

Anyway before the pistons arrived the head gasket blew, took out the deck plate, left a chunk missing from the head and gouged number two bore quite badly. The pistons were NEEDED urgently.

The awesome Wiseco pistons arrived about 3 weeks later ................

BUT ...............................

Do these look like low compression to you ? Ah.... NO. As you can see the dish is smaller than the STD Woo ones next to it. I contacted Wiseco directly and sent them the pistons back along with a Woo sample for them to make a new set of low compression ones.

Or as Doc Emmett Brown would say "Great Scott"

I can put the dude from Wiseco's address here.

I found them SOOOOOO much more helpful than Import Perfromance Parts. I have sent them a 1600 Woo piston to work with and they are gonna make new low compression pistons with a deeper dish and still having the high sides to keep the quench.

The dudes name is Dwayne Snyder and his address is

John:

I think you have a 1500 Woo, those use a 76mm piston (if i remember correctly) and the same stroke as the 1600. 81.5mm

Tim: Or as Marty Mc Fly would say "Heavy Doc"

Tim (ubuyau) got his 1500 forged pistons from Ross, check with him for more piston details.

The 1600 Woo uses a 79mm bore as std. I'm not sure if the 1500 block can be bored out to use the 1600 pistons if it can then it is a healthy increase in capacity. I just ordered 80mm pistons (40thou) from Wiseco. this make the car a 1640cc

They cost me us$479 + rings + $130 postage. BUT i think if you can order direct from Wiseco it would be cheaper.

Yup

Dwayne from Wiseco contacted me on Tuesday to say that the pistons were in the QC department getting final inspecction and should be posted out by the end of the week.

It's been hard living without boost.

I ended up buying a 2000 model Citi Golf 1.6i (Mk1 shape VW Golf) as a run around coz the Woo is obviously off the road and my other car is a 1978 Austin Mini and the 120km a day trip is a bit toooo long for it.

The bonus bit about living without the boost si that the Golf get 8 litres per hundred kays.

I will post some pics when the pistons arrive.

If you know the part numbers on the pistons I would like it...or should I just call that guy you mentioned and tell him what I am looking for...ask if they could make a set for my car too.

Thanks
