Water Injection Install
Today we installed water injection, but left it disabled awaiting my O2 simulator so we can tune it properly. Heres some pics:
Some pics of 2 of the charge pipes we had to take out:
Two holes drilled in my washer fluid reservoir for a return system with regulator and the pump we are using:
Here the pump and some piping is in place and also you can see the solenoid that will let water through and a little pressure gauge :
We placed the nozzle with stealth in mind...
Forgot to get pics of the regulator and boost activated switch
More to come soon...

This is becoming very interesting project Were you having some problems with knock, or do you plan to run slightly more boost?? Or for safety?
As far as the MAP sensor goes, my apprach is as follows (serves same purpose):
I have tapped the original MAP sensor opening, and installed hose fitting adapter. The MAP sensor was then installed upside down using original bolt:
Blue silicone line is then run to a T-connector. Its split then into the boost gauge line, and to the MAP sensor with inline check valve.

haha I like that setup too Tom, and nice matching blue hose!
We put the water injection in for safety mainly, and possibly a little more boost ....... we'll see how it goes.
Managed to get pics of the regulator and pressure switch today:

Major update - phase 1 upgrades complete
After spending countless hours in the shop with my friend, I think we have got all the major issues sorted out. We have the O2 simulator running correctly under boost and my closed loop still works properly in vacuum. We also installed the AEM wideband O2 for tuning and monitoring. Fuel is taken care of by the stock injectors PLUS two additional injectors (2 x 32lb) welded into my charge pipe right before the throttle body. Right now its running a safe street tune with AFRs in the low 10s under boost + water injection turns on @ 4psi +.
I can't even begin to describe the difference. The first word that comes to mind now is "violent" lol. The turbo spools much faster, and the boost hits harder, and best of all I have a full boosted powerband from 3000 - 6500 RPM. First gear breaks loose very easily and bounces off the rev limiter lmao. My friend who has been doing all this work estimated the power to be 200 - 210 whp. All this, and still running the same 7psi.
There is still more to come as the dyno should be arriving within the next 2 weeks, and we will use it to fine tune and lean out the AFRs a bit to around mid 11s under boost. In addition I plan to remove one of the cats so that should also free up some extra power.
The clutch is slipping pretty bad now in 4th gear and up under boost, but the new one should be installed sometime this week. Having said that I still managed to beat my friends 2005 Altima and my dads 2003 G35 (which both run high 14s in the 1/4 mile) and also was able to keep up with a BMW 540i from a roll.
This is how the car should have been the first time!!! Anyways heres some pics:
AEM wideband:
Additional injectors built to be welded onto charge pipe:
Injectors placed with stealth in mind :
Adjusting jumpers in the Emanage to allow for the additional injectors:
More to come!

what can i say
it is perfect! great! congratulations!
u have done an excelent job with your project
with your water injection kit u can lean the car to 12 AFR i think even more with good timing
my car is right now @ mid 11 with no timing control using shell defenda 93oct NGK 9 heat range and there is no knocking
hope to see some track times soon

I'm in the process to make my Optra turbo too.
I hoping to be finished sometime next month.
Can you post a pic of the oil feed on the block?
Thanx
Thanks man, I hope yours works out well too!
this is the only pic of the oil feed that I have, they tapped the bolt right near the oil filter:

Ya..... I think your going to have a hard time with the Mazdaspeed3.... that's a kick ass engine ( I have a CX7 with the same 2.3L Direct Injection turbo )
The Speed3, Speed6 and CX7 are going to be the next ones in the tuning spotlight..... that same engine is now used in the ChampCar series .... you can get all the aftermarket upgrades from Cosworth and run a full race engine if you have the cash.
I've allready looked at multiple kits for 500+ hp and when combined with the Cosworth race components I'm sure it will be capable of 1000+hp and incredibly high RPM.
Unfortunatly it's technically a Ford engine..... and I hate Fords..... but I just keep telling myself it's a Mazda/Cosworth engine

heheh yah he was pretty fast, but I actually thought it would be faster. He did have some advantages on me though. I had a 220lb passenger in the car and the clutch slips 3rd, 4th, 5th LOL (clutch should be getting swapped out this coming Tuesday, I've just been waiting for the guy to have time. Also will be replacing the manual transmission fluid at the same time). With just me in the car, new clutch and my final tune (still on safe street tune), I'm sure I could have stayed with him.PrecisionBoost wrote:Ya..... This arrived at my shop on Friday, had to inspect it and take a few pics. Right now its my "backup" motor incase I blow mine, but I may decide to build it up and then swap it in..... We'll see how it goes.
I got a pretty good deal on this motor IMO:
$350 CAD + tax & shipping
39,000km
both intake/exhaust manifolds
O2 sensor
injectors, fuel rail, wiring
power steering pump
coil packs with wires and spark plugs
all other stock sensors with their connectors
Just had to get a shot of this........ Single Turbo Supra vs Optra LOL ........... the supra belongs to my friend who has been doing all the work on my car
