F28 Swap... Yes i'm Serious
I'm really Scrounging up the moulah to grab one of these. I'm figuring i'll need the F28, i dont think i'm going to do that AWD conversion... atleast not yet.
1) ECU, i hear the manual and automatic ECU's are different ( I Have automatic currently)
2)Tranny.
3) anything else i'll need?

I Figure the Clutch and Flywheel of the C20LET engine will be a necesity in that case. But the ECU's are different... would i have to throw a Lanos Manual Tranny ECU in before i can?

There's no ECU for the manual transmisions....
The Thing about the F28 are the CV joints/driveshafts... honestly i dont know if they're the same as the F16/F20/D16/D20...
If they're the same you'll only need some mechanical parts such as:
- Clutch Pedal
- Flywheel, clutch (its suppose to come with the engine)
- Tranny (driveshafts/CV joints)
- clutch cable
Also you'll have to convert to F28 AWD to FWD...

There's no point fitting one to your engine now, wait untill you've got a more powerful engine built. Why? Well the F28 has more transmission losses than the F16, it's also alot heavier. With less power to the wheels and a heavier car you'll be going slower....
If you can get one, keep it in the garage untill the turbo engine is built.

It would be better if he saved longer and then bought a F28............with a LET attached to it. It'd solve any flywheel/clutch issues.
The driveshafts are equal length with the 'long' side consisting of a intermediate or quill shaft and then the driveshaft. The quill shaft is supported by a bearing housing bolted to the back of the block half way along.
Converting from 4wd drive to 2wd is a case of removing the transfer box from the output of the gearbox and modifying the seal retainer. I have the conversion in a mag which I could scan for you.

I'll try and find it tomorrow and put up a post for it.Efrain A. wrote:Rock on! mate!Stefan wrote:I have the conversion in a mag which I could scan for you.

If the CV joints and driveshafts don't line up there must be an aftermarket replacement for those dropping the C20LET/F28 into the Astra/Kadette
If you plan to make a pile more power it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to get stronger aftermarket driveshafts anyways.
I thought I remember seeing something on the courtenay sport website about drive shafts.... http://www.courtenaysport.co.uk/default.htm
Hmmm... I don't see it but then again their site is allways a pain to navigate.... I never seem to find what I want.... I checked around and I can't see anything to do with transmissions.... I swear they used to sell AWD to FWD conversion kits for the F28.
Just a hint there are parts both in the PRODUCTS and TUNING links.... have fun looking

The CV joints and driveshafts will swap straight into an Astra/Kadet/Lemans as long as the struts have the big bearings/hubs. These were in Astra/Kadet/Lemans with 1.8L engines and bigger. With smaller capacity cars you need to swap struts too.

Strange but when i change my clutch some months ago... i did also changed the struts (hub/bearings) from a 1.6 DOHC Lanos... they seem to be Bigger than the old ones i had (1.5l) since now im using 1.6 16v CV joints...Stefan wrote:The CV joints and driveshafts will swap straight into an Astra/Kadet/Lemans as long as the struts have the big bearings/hubs. So it seems that the 1.6 DOHC lanos has the Big bearings/hubs...
