16"s pr 17"s Sports Rims on the Lanos ... !!!
Hey all, well .. i own a 2001 Daewoo Lanos Sport Hatchback , and i was looking forward to change those 13" stock rims with something bigger .. like 16"s or 17"s ... but some ppl told me that this modification needs a Complete new set of Suspensions and Springs (Koni or something) and that i cant just fit those 16"s or 17"s to my car with its stock suspension or atleast by changing the SPRINGS only . They Also told me that if i did that it would harm my engine and suspension ....
Guys plz i need help ... any ideas would be appreciated !!:)

On my 7th set of rims on my 1999 Lanos now. had 14's / 15's / 16's /17's and NOW !!!!!
I ahve made the move to 18" TSW's. with 215/35 Pirelli P Zero Neros.
Get the right offset and you will have no problems. I had 17" TSW Razors that came off a VW Golf 1 (rabbit) with a 20mm drop and they caught the rear wheel arches with std shocks. I put in rubber spring boosters with Gabriel Gas shocks and it helped a bit.
BUT the 18's have the correct Opel offset and sit inside the body work more so they don't catch.

Offset is the measured distance between the hub mounting surface and the centerline of the rim. So basicly how far your wheel sticks out or how far it is tucked inSilverFox wrote: but i need u guys to clarify one morething for me .. what do u all mean by the "Right Offset" ... do u mean Sports Suspensions and Shock Absorbers ...etc ???

16s or 17s?SilverFox wrote:well, i got it ... and i guess that a 205/40 tire would be the most suitable one for a Lanos ...
205/40/16 is so damn close to the stock tire size, sadly I could only find two tires in that size...but one of them is what I was planning to go with when I pick up a lanos so it's what I'll be using

I must admit to finding the Lanos rode really comfortable on the 16" Anterra's with 205/45 tyres. I was running Goodyear F1s at the time which were awesome.
However with rims getting bigger all the time, 17"s have now become the norm and the 205/40x17 tyres are normally cheaper than their 16" equivilants. The 17's aint quite as nice on the road though as you feel the bumps and ruts alot more as there is less side wall flex.
The 18"s are 215/35's

I really dont think 17s are bad, I have 205/40/17s on a wide wheel (making it even stiffer) and 215/45/16s on a normal width wheel and I dont notice much of a difference and my suspension is slammed with coil-overs and sways bars, it really couldn't be much stiffer.wolfhound wrote:I must admit to finding the Lanos rode really comfortable on the 16" Anterra's with 205/45 tyres. btw it has an offset...they put a spacer on the inside b4 they put the rim on...2 make the rims sit further out... i chose 17" cuz i read they are the biggest n safest bet to fit on a lanos...18"s meant more 2 do..like rolling of the gaurds or having less of a tyre...also meant the wheels are more likely to rub against the car going over bumps etc...

Funnily enough, my 18's fitted better and with less hassle than the 17's. Again it boiled down to the correct rim fitment. i.e. No rolling of the fenders or touching under full lock. they are just perfect.
I know some of you guys wont agree, but with out deteriorating roads here in Africa, the 16's did give me a better ride over the ruff stuff.
BUT 18's rock in the looks department.
