I just stuck it down over the o-ring and tightened it. No leaks ... so far. :)

Quick question on that... Do I have to do anything special to fill it besides run it and let the air out of the reservoir?

Thats it.

Just fill it, let the air out, let it circulate and keep topping up until it is at the right level.

Cool... just finished up. Working well. The bypass hose wanted to leak a little tiny bit once it was back on, but a little twisting and adjusting and it stopped. Looks to be all a-okay now. :)

Just a quick update:

The repaired thermostat is still in the car and working perfectly.
Looks like the repair is a good way to go for a temporary fix. :)

*JUST* in case it breaks, I have the new one in the car, all the tools needed to change it and a full jug of 50/50 mix coolant.

The repaired thermostat started leaking and I put the new one in last night.
The repaired one did not break or split, but it started to leak around where the two halves of the thermostat housing were epoxied together.
Even having the two halves bolted together did not stop it from leaking.

The repaired one lasted one month and I spent almost as much money for the parts to repair it as a new one cost.

It was a very successful short-term repair to get the car back on the road while the new thermostat was being ordered.

Now it is time to go order a spare to keep in the car! :)

The Lanos and Aveo thermostats are interchangeable.

At the Chevy dealer, after tax, the Aveo one was $17.17, but for the plastic one just like on my Lanos. The same kind that break.

The metal one for the '07 Aveo, after tax was $83.44.

The day after my thermostat broke, I repaired it so it could be used until the new one arrived; here are the pics:

Update!

I finally bought the metal thermostat housing for my Lanos.

After 4 thermostats and the most recent starting to show signs that it is about to break, I went ahead and spent the $84 for a metal one.

It is VERY well made and looks like it will never leak or have any problems again.

For anyone interested in buying one for their car, the Chevy/GM part number is: 96407677

I hope this will be of some help!

Pics will be posted in the next day or so.

1.6l 2000 Lanos

I just had my t-housing split on me Christmas eve. While I was poking about trying to figure out which hose busted before I spotted the housing, a weak hose split when I pressed it. Since the break down happened about 30 mins away from home and it was xmas eve, I don't have the part to look at and didn't have time to take it off or anything. I did manage to get a picture of the hose with my cell phone. It's just to the right of the coil pack, about 6 inches long, about 1" diameter, and looks to just be a generic hose. It doesn't look fitted although it is bent at a 90 degree angle, but not factory angled.

My question is, what should I be asking for at an auto or parts store for a replacement? I assume it's a cooling system hose but Advance Auto didn't have any generic hosing like this according to the sales guy. I haven't checked other places yet because I'll do that when my t-housing comes in this afternoon. Thanks for any help.
