shifter locking up

any one out their that knows whats up with ur shifter locking up in the "P"
position. im having to resort to unlocking it with the key constantly and putting it in neutral to start car.

when you start it in P do you hear the shifter handel click when you push on the brakes?

Check your brake signal switch. If its toast, it won't engage the little flapper to let you shift out of P. If you can't get a buddy to check it for you, just step on your brakes at night and look behind you...stopped in a parking lot or something of course, and see if your lights work.

Same thing happened to me.

My car did this cause i had a blown fuse its like a safty feature

well i was performing a brake upgrade and some brakeFluid(BF) fell on my Nutrual position switch
im wondering if that has anything to do with it, i mean, i cleaned it off of course. but i will check that
stuff out just to trubleshoot and narrow possibilities

yeah as it turns out its the brake lamp switch, that some one mentioned

I am having this same problem, where is the fuse that I should check? My car will not move from park unless manually use the key in the console slot...please also my brake lights no longer work and all I can find using search is that these two problems are related...thanks!!!

It's the brake light switch...send one of the guys above a pm and they can tell you how to fix it.
