rotors... what brand to buy?

Post by MMamdouh »

i got 3 options for buying new rotors and i need your opinion guys:

1- some korean made rotors, don't remeber the manufacuter's name but i know they kame from korea... rotors look well packaged and it sosts some 44.65USD

2- SK rotors, those are german made rotors as the sales man said but i never heard of those before... surpizingly they are way cheaper than the korean ones as the cost 32.15USD

3- brembo rotors, i have an experiance with brembo before and it is good... only down side is that this is the most expensive option as those will set me back some 50USD

what do you think?

go for the risky, unknown korean rotors?
is the cheapest option a good option since it is german as i never heard of SK either?
or bite the bullet and go for the most expensive option since it is the one i currenly trust?

German or Brembo tbh. What pads you running? if you're running good pads you'd need good rotors, as they'd munch up the cheaper ones.

i am running GOLD pads... a korean made pads that are quite decent... it is not as abrasive as the turkish pads i am currently running and i don't want to bed the new rotors with had pads so the Gold was my choice

i see that you guys discarded the korean rotors and i wasn't favoring them TBH... what about them SK rotors? anyone tried them? or at least has any kind of feedback regarding them?

i love the brembos but with such price difference between both products i have to check them SKs... any feedback?

Just bought a pair for my '02 Lanos from www.autopartswarehouse.com for $28.95 USD each.
Added a set of Centrics pads, and the bill was $82.00. FREE SHIP over $50.00, too!

i haven't checked my log yet to know how many ks i hav done with the rotrs but so far they are great... bedding is over and they are gripping very nicly. pulsation while braking is gone now (old warpped rotors) and the feedback is great so far.

drove my dad's car on thursday (1.5 SOHC lanos with OEM brakes setup) with 3 people on board and it felt like NO BRAKES WHATSOEVER.

I was being towed by a friend the other night, he wanted to bring a car up to the shed we work in but it wasn't running, the clutch arm was broken or something. So i couldn't use the engine to slow me down, just the brakes, left it in neutral though so the brakes wouldnt lock up from too much pumping, but not using the engine meant i was connnnstantly on the brakes downhill, letting off every now and then to let them cool down a wee bit, but by the end of the 30mile drive it felt like there was nothing there aswell xD pedal went half way down before i started noticing anything at all.

Shoulda smelt the brakes when we stopped at the shed

rotors pushed hard on many occasions for testing purposes and they are quite nice

the old "smoak as hell" symptiom that i was getting from the pads with the old setup is now gone... seems that the bigger rotrs are doing a better job at lot less effort and not producing pad burning heat output

in summary i'd recommend them SKs if i were asked for my opinion about them.
