Shifter compatibility

After comparing shifters with GsiTurbo it would appear that the shifter from the Optra/Lacetti is the same as the LeMans/Racer/Nexia.

I proved it by purchasing a shifter from a Lemans at a local yard for $4.00

I removed my Optra shifter and installed the Lemans without any problem... I actually like it better... it's smaller and slightly shorter which makes shifting better.

So I belive that the following cars all have the exact same shifter:

Chev Optra
Chev Optra 5
Suzuki Forenza
Suzuki Reno
Daewoo Lanos
Daewoo Nubira
Pontiac Lemans
Pontiac Optima
Daewoo Nexia
Daewoo Racer

They are most likely the same in the Astra/Kadette as well.

The good news is that I'm allready looking at making a totally new shifter with a better throw and feel.

I want to retain the existing reverse lockout but I'd like to make it a slightly different system to allow for a shorter shift rod length.

yust something i wanna tell ya here...

In EU the lacetti/optra model 2005 has a new shifter model/system... im not sure yet if they are interchangeble?... atm i got a lacetti "sport" in shop... its a special model over here.... well actualy its the 2005 model and a msdesign body kit installed....

So again the seam to have adyusted the shifting model BUT i dont have a clue how or if this means you cant use the old ones on the newer model

The swap consisted of poping the clip out of the Lacetti (optra) shifter, pulling it out, dropping the Lemans shifter in and poping the clip back on.

Absolutely zero modifications and the shifter feels smaller and more sporty than my current shifter.

It shouldn't take too long to come up with a modified short shifter design.... I have a pile of projects on the go but this is one that bugs the hell out of me.... I feel like I'm rowing a boat with the current shifter.... way too long of a throw.

I also thought it might be intresting to make a shifting gate template to fit onto the existing shifter so that the shifter isn't sloppy and you don't miss shifts..... basicly it's a plate with machined grooves to guide the shifter into the exact center of each gate location.

First priority is of course the short shifter (with the reverse gate) but I haven't decided whether it would be better to fabricate an entirely new shifter or simply remanufacture the existing one ( cut it, machine it, weld it , bend it to make it conform correctly )

more then just a bodykit.

difference between the lacetti and lacetti sport:

- msdesign bodykit
- ovale sportexhaust
- special frontgrille
- roofspoiler
- specific carpets, sportbadges and some metallcoulored accents,

but most important: a 1.8 engine under the hood

that exhuast tip is garbage in my eyes so i didnt mention it

nor did i mention the engine becuase in US the lacetti holds a 2.0 16v

but alloys on your pictures are way better then the ones we get on sport version here :s
