What are the similarities/differences between the Lanos and Aveo suspension? Would shocks and springs from the Aveo fit the Lanos? The only reason that I ask is because lowering springs for the Lanos are harder to come by and are more expensive, and I want to see if it would be possible to set up Aveo lowering springs on the Lanos.
Thanks for your input!

I think the front components will fit but not the rear. Don't quote me on that, it maybe the other way around. If no one replies soon I'll dig up where I saw that. What are you looking for? I’ve been talking to my Apex supplier for my personal interest and they have some sport kits. I believe they have a 1.7” and 2.4” lowering sport kit.
I'd also like to know if the sway bars are interchangeable? I haven't seen any info about that. We're considering building sway bars, probably as a one time limited (group buy?) thing providing there’s enough interest. Are the sway bars interchangeable on all the overseas vehicles that have compatible lowering springs and coil-overs?

I need just a simple set of lowering springs. I saw a bunch of them for the Aveo for $199 and the best price for the Lanos was $299.
But a bit more of heavy digging...AKA looking at the "Sponsored Links" section of Google...brought me to a site that had H&R Springs for the Lanos for $190.63...in stock. That seems like a good price. If you can find a better deal with Apex, let me know, 'cause I'll go in with you. I would need the lesser drop. 2.4" is WAY to low to be used in a DD.
As for the sway bar...I honestly don't know. If I remember correctly, the sway bar from a Lemans fits. I can't be sure though. I think that name sticks out in my head. I don't know if anyone made a sway bar for the Lemans, but it is again simply an Opel Kadett...and I'm sure there are some available somewhere on the market. Then again, it's just a bent piece of metal...if you need, I could get the measurements from my car, whip one up on CAD in an hour or two, and send it to a local machine shop. If I recall though, sway bars aggravate understeer, and the Lanos understeers quite badly. I don't know if I should do this on my daily driver. My suspension setup was going to be a lowering kit, front and rear strut bars, and new seats. The leather seats in the Lanos are AWFUL in cornering...they have no side bolsters and it makes the car feel like it is driving WAY worse than it is.
But here's some food for thought in the future. I know you and Garrett always buy/build stuff for the Lanos and look for group buys. Odds are, if you guys want it...I'll want it...So be sure to throw me a PM or e-mail when you have something planned or something for sale. UF pays me very well every semester to be here and the IRS is refunding much of my income tax for '07 so I'll have some money to work with over the summer. Let me know when you guys have something planned...and we can always split the cost between the three of us.

In the USA market the only thing from Apex available is a full sport kit for ~$575 and it lowers 1.7" f/r. I can also get the Apex pieces from overseas. I'd assume it's a full sport kit as well though because of how low it is. One lowers the car 2.4" front and 1.6" rear and the other is 1.6" f/r. The 1.6 f/r could be just lowering springs since that's how low most of Apex springs go. With the US $ so crappy I don't think it will be cheaper than $190 though, the Aveo springs are kind of expensive too.BosnianLanos wrote:I need just a simple set of lowering springs. There are probably a couple sway bars available for the kadett or something but I want a quality kit. Sway bars aren't very expensive normally so I think it's worth dishing out a little extra for better, adjustable ones. With my adjustable sway bars on my Lacetti I could get oversteer if I wanted with lowering springs.
Hmm, I'm getting seats for mine as well probably. I'm on an extremely tight budget but with summer coming up I don't think I could last past this month with leather and no A/C. I'm good with heat and on cooler summer days here in Arizona I'll be fine without A/C but not if the seats are 140* to add to the heat. Anyway, I'll PM you when I get a response to my cost on the seats and see if you're interested. I could also have seat brackets made probably which I think would help with cost since getting the first one right will most likely be half the cost.
Sounds good! I can't think of anything that would help offset cost other than the LSD, sway bars, and seats at this point. Actually that’s quite a bit of money. Maybe turbo manifold way down the road, but I don’t know, I really rather build an N/A motor but this is supposed to be a budget build. So if I decide I want a power level to where it'd be cheaper to go turbo then I'll likely go that route. I’ll already have all my Lacetti old N/A parts to get an idea of how much power I would want since I would already have a good start.

Aveo and Lanos sway bars are not compatable
I think we might go through with Aveo bars but probably not Lanos, I'll see what kind of intrest there is though. It's actually BMS doing it...if they don't want to and I can make enough profit for my time then I'll probably find someone else to in a few months.

i haven't throughly checked the aveo suspension yet but...
on a quick inspection the rear suspension of an aeo is too different than the lanos, the rear suspension member is different in shape and i recon the springs too... not sure about the shocks
the front seems compatable minus the control arm, the aveo got a control arm that has one bushing similar to the lanos and the other similar to the nubira

here is a pic for an aveo's control arm... half lanos and half nubira as far as bushings are concerned:
