Nubaroo - Forged internals upgrade - Resleeve????
Hi there all. Just some questions - When I broke my motor round 180 000km I damaged 1 x of my sleeves with a broken conrod. I wanted to rebore the block at the time to get rid of the damage inside the cylinders, but I was told that one cannot get oversize pistons for the Opel/Daewoo and then was told I had to have the damaged cylinder re-sleeved.
This was done and the remaining 3 x cylinders cleaned up by means of hohning them. The block has been holding up nicely but now on 350 000KM I am thinking of installing forged internals, and the sleeves do not look too nice. I was thinking to just resleeving all 4 x cylinders, but now one of the tuners said that there has been some problems on cars boosting round 1.5bar (which is what I am planning on running) with sleeves moving/coming loose etc.after they have been resleeved??
Also I have some chrome molly forged conrods good for 500HP+ already and I am wondering which pistons to get. I am leaning towards Arias pistons, but people tell me they are "noisy" untill the car reaches operating temperature??? I have found some WOSSNER forged pistons at an excellent price R 4 400, but I don`t know them. The guys tell me they are excellent and not noisy at all - does anybody know anything about WOSSNER pistons???

wossner pistons are good and 4400rand ($585) isn't bad either, do they come with rings and do you know what the postage from Germany or the UK will be?
I sell Wiseco pistons for close to the same price with new pin and rings, they are made here in the States.
the only time a piston should become noisy is if the bore in the block is too big for the pistons or the rings are bad or the piston pin is too small for the piston.
sorry that you were dicked around by the shop that told you there are no pistons available. you would have had the forged pistons you are after now long paid off without all that sleeve business.
I am not a fan of putting sleeves in motors that were not designed with them because it can never be right.
the pistons you have, are they for a pressed piston pin or floating?
i'm not sure if the motor is easy to find or if you car is running and you're looking to just upgrade but what I would do is buy a new block. you can buy the pistons to whatever bore you like, have the machine work done (NO SLEEVES), and have all your parts swapped into that new block. it's the safest way to go in my opinion.

Silly me LOL (XZGV)
My motor is still running as per the specs on my signature so all is good at this point apart from the broken diff at this point. The forged conrods and ARP bolts I have bought almost a year ago - so I am not in a hurry to complete the upgrade. I am still running the standard Daewoo setup - pressed rods and pistons, but the forged rods I bought are of the floating type. The Wossner pistons are complete with gudgeon pins and rings, clips and they come in 3 sizes - 86mm, then 0.25mm and 0.5mm oversize. I might be able to get a "GOOD" secondhand Daewoo block from Daewoo SA, or maybe I could get one from one of the tuners - would any 2.0L Opel block be compatible with my car, and how do I check if the block has been worked on (sleeves redone)???
I have no idea on the postage - I have never bought anything outside SA LOL!

look into the postage, it might not be too bad but the import tax is a killer. PM me with what the total will be posted for the pistons, I might ne able to better the price. I can do any bore up to 2.0mm over and any compression.
just about an opel/vauxhall/holden 2.0 SOHC and DOHC will work just have to make sure it has the provissions for the crank sensor at the front of the block. some are blocked off and others are used but aslong as the hole is there you are good to go.

Thanks Garret for the info - the Wossner pistons I can get locally over the counter from one of our speed shops so there is no postage to be paid. The compression listed on the piston set is 8.5:1. What is the pricing on the Wiseco`s landed here in SA??

Dude, check out Leda performance in Cape Town, they are the local Wiseco agents
They WILL have the Opel 2 litre pistons in stock!
Call Rupert on 0827881761 for a quote, but compare it with Garrets prices from the US before you order.
The Wiseco stuff is just so well made.

Yes you!!!LOL - post me that gearbox and I will send you some SCHWEEEET video clips of my Daewoo burning some serious rubber!!
I managed to get me hands on a VIRGIN Daewoo 2.0L block, so no more RE-SLEEVING!!! - I am picking it up 2morrow for just R800. Then I need the pistons and the games can begin!! Maybe I can get the crank as well....?? Picked up my 2nd hand diff today - the gear from my broken diff has been fitted on the "new" ond and the Woo should be rolling again by Sunday

PS - The tuner that did my diff is also supplying me a Opel Superboss ALUMINIUM sump cover for R600! This aparantly holds approx. 800ml additional oil and allows for better cooling and lower oil temperatures????
