1.6 lanos tach install with pics

Post by sheepdizildawg »

Well for the second time here goes (computer crashed as I was posting the first time):

1. Buy a tach that will work with a 4 cylinder engine

2. Get some extra wire, some slice tabs, and a 12mm socket (if going straight to ECU)

there is 2 ways to install it, One is to go straight to the ECU the other is going being the gauge cluster, I already have it installed to the ECU so that is what I will be showing. you also need to find a good place to put the tach, so its not in the way but you can still see it without taking eyes off the road.

3. Remove the 4 bolts holding the passenger seat down

4. after all 4 bolts are removed, remove the seat from the car

5. You need to remove the plastic cover on the ECU, to do this pull out and up on the tab closest to the middle consul and the side closest to the front of the car

6. Remove the middle cluster of wires and turn it over

7. almost to the middle there is a Green with black stripe wire, you need to splice into this wire with the Slice tabs, they usually come with the tach, but if not, I bought a pack of 25 from home depot for $2

8. After you have the wire spliced and going to the tach (make sure you hide the wire before you splice, hard to put a tach under the dash)

9. you can put the top of the ECU back on and reinstall the seat, make sure all bolts are really tight

10. now rout the power wire and light wire (if it has one) into the quarter panel and out the hole by the headlight

11. Hook the power wire to something that only gets power when the car is on, I choose the fuel pump fuse, I also choose the parking light fuse for the lights.

12. Ground the tach under the dash.

13. Put everything together and you are all set, make sure the tach is set to 4 cylinder.

will put a simple one up tomorrow, If anyone has the link to removing the dash, please post. If you get that far, then all you have to do is find the green with black wire and use that one

Cargo cultism is a beautiful thing as long as you never fall for it.
