Post by TheGreatAndPowerfulOz »

Last night as I was driving to another party, my Lanos turned 100,000 miles and it's still running and driving perfectly!

Love that little car!

me too! think about it, what is the ONLY thing that ever goes wrong with the cars!? ...the timing belts, and that's an owners issue not the car itself.

now think about VW's, there isn't one VW in existence that dosen't have at least one electrical issue but EVERYONE likes VW's in one form or another. their electrical issues are usually big ones and they just get shrugged off. and trust me, I know what I'm taking about, before buying the nubi I have two 96 Jettas and a 99 jetta (wife still has it) and they all had issues.

My 1969 VW Beetle never had any electrical issues.
The only thing that went wrong was the front & real main seals leaked, but I replaced them & the car went on fine for another 250,000 miles.

I finally took the car off the road because of rust between the chassis & the front suspension (the lower frame head) and I didn't trust it on the road any longer.
Yes .. I know .. I know ... new lower frame head is only $75-ish and a few bolts to replace, but I never got around to it. lol

I miss my old rear engine, air-cooled VWs! ... I had that Beetle, a 1969 Squareback and a 1979 Bus (Microbus).

So anyway ... the Lanos is as reliable as the owner taking care of it. :)

 did the 69 VW's have any electrical!? I thought they where started with a hand crank and literally used candle powered lighting... there wasn't anything to go wrong! JK

actually though, I'm a VW fan and always will be. that is one of the reasons why I think I got into the Lemans, there are a ridiculous amount of similarities between the MK2 Golf and Kadett.

By 1969 VW had JUST upgraded to electric headlights from oil lamp lighting!! LOL

As for electrical .. there was a small bundle of wires that signals of Morse code were sent over from one end of the car to the other. The trained squirrels in each end of the car sent and received the signals and made the correct functions that were required happen. hahaha
