well if your not gonna speed then i say 40 should get you the best MPG. :D but i'm sure you don't wanna be driving for 10 hours so i say about 65 or 70 should be fine. i say if you go above 80 it won't kill the gas but it won't be that great on it.

I just towed a 4700# trailer a little over 1100miles there and back w/ my Dads trucks. Usually he gets 15.7mpg nearly all city/hard driving.. pulling the trailer 1100miles at speeds of 70-90 (mostly 80) we still got bout 17mph and the truck has short gear ratios.

So i really dont think that the speed effects gas milage unless its stop and go. I mean in my car i used to cruize at 100-130mph on the freeway EVERY night bout 25miles there and back and my gas milage wasnt effected.

But i heard a review on tv once where they said most cars/suvs get best milage w/ ac on (cuz windows up) at 50-60mph..since you have a small car and not a huge suv id say at least 60mph

it was mentioned somewhere that going above 90 km/h makes the air resistance twice as much as going below 90 km/h so your best speed for gas milage is 90 km/h... it is also the speed at which car manufacturers rate their high way fuel consumption for getting the best figures they can pull.
