noise coming from engine compartment
yesterday my 2000 lanos hatch 1.6L started making an odd noise honestly it sounds like a turbo spooling up. it's coming from the pully side of the engine. not sure if it's the timing system or one of the other pully or pump systems. anybody elses have this issue or know how to figure out what the problem is thanks in advance.

Most likely just a loose belt. They make a small squealing noise when they start getting loose, but when they get worse (and they will get worse), they sound like you are murdering cats in your engine compartment. Just determine which belt it is and tighten the tensioner, and if the belt is in bad shape, replace the belt.

I'm having the same problem. I checked all the belts and the pulleys and they where good. it's like a whiring noise. Ive got the pulley from 360, the intake from BMS, and a catback exhuast. It was always there but it became more pronounced about 3 months ago. hasnt got worse or better though.
I should note that I have a 2004 Suzuki Forenza (2.0 liter) with a little over 20k miles on it

So it's nothing thats causing/sign of damage? That noise has been bothering me for awhile I can live with it, I was just worried something might be wrong.

or in a much easyer way you can use a long screw driver as an ear peice... start the engine and put one end of the screw driver on the alternator and the other end on your ear... you will be able to hear grinding noises if the bearings are bad.

Longshot is crank pully (harmonic balancer)
My stock crank pulley delaminated and was a mysterious noise for a couple weeks before it totally was spinning within itself!
I currently own two
