Daewoo planning rally team!

Post by tango »

You read the topic correctly! Daewoo is currently in talks with teams and sponsors to get a small "Daewoo Kalos Rally Challenge" in the works. The idea is to have a short 8 race season in Belgium and Holland. The company entrusted to design and prepare the Kalos for competition is Dutch specialist Biesheuvel Autosport. They will provide the support for the teams interested. In rally trim the 1.4L 16v 4 cylinder produces 110hp. Not bad.

This can only be a start folks! Already the Euro-spec Kalos and the new Nubira have been re-tooled for a more sportier European feel to them. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Daewoo also has a few new engines on offer in Europe:

1.0L 4 cylinder 62hp: Matiz minicar

1.2L 4 cylinder 72hp: Kalos

The Rally Kalos will have the 1.4L 16v. And really, the Kalos is PERFECT for rally. If they put a 2.0 turbo and 4wd in there it will rock! Notice that Peugeot has the 206 as their car...one that is a bit smaller than the Kalos, and Mitsubishi is moving to the Colt (a smaller car than the Lancer). The fact that the Kalos has the wheels at each conrner makes it VERY chuckable. Would love to see what Daewoo could do. I mean Hyundai isn't too bad out there.

I for one would love to see Daewoo in the rally scene. I recently traveled up to Rumford, Maine for the annual Maine Forest ProRally. It was the first rally I have been to and trust me, everyone was staring at my car, b/c it was a Daewoo amongst a sea of awd cars: Subbies, Evo's, Volvo's, Audi's, VW's, and I had a blast.

Hyundai finished third or fourth in Group N. Hyundai is doing great in WRC also. :D

2000 Daewoo Lanos
1992 Subaru SVX
1986 VW GTi
1988 Mazda GTX

I just don't like pulling up to a red light next to a car like mine.
