You don't have to, but I would advise it. The VGIS system is very heavy and offers absolutely no performance gains when you are boosting. The only forced induction system where you absolutely HAVE to change the manifold is the Eaton blower.

"Superchargers are vehicle-specific, and they will come with everything needed for a direct bolt-on. " Are they really serious???zerosilence wrote:what is the vgis system? also here is one kit i found that looked alright: http://www.andysautosport.com/daewoo/19 ... 92669.html

I laughed at that...AcingTeam wrote:"Superchargers are vehicle-specific, and they will come with everything needed for a direct bolt-on. When you go to the checkout, there is no vehicle selection process. Furthermore, there is no way a supercharger for a 1.6L will cost the same as a 7L Vette.
Most of the stuff at AAS is junk, and most everything listed under Daewoo specifically is actually universal. Don't look for any bolt on kit for the Daewoos, at least not from there.

VGIS is why your intake looks like 4 little turbos put together. It's a system that changes the runner length going into the engine. Lower RPM, higher runner length.... Higher RPM, lower runner length.
I'm sure you've felt this... around 5000 RPMS your car will lunge forwards and sound differently. Also, when you come down off a high RPM run, your car will make a noise similar to a blow-off valve (or like a little ringing). This is the air being forced back through the long runner system.
The general idea of the system is to raise the volumetric efficiency into the engine. Since you would be boosting, there is no need to change the efficiency through breathing, it's a waste of time and definitely a waste of weight on the system.
Due out this summer are Daewoo intake manifolds for boosted applications if you can wait that long...
Also, the Eatons can be found many places. The Mini-Cooper uses the same model for the JCW package...
