Why NOT to lighten OE flywheel

I found this on a UK-based forum.... two different cars with stock flywheels (Opel-GM, hence same as Daewoo) being lightened.. And the results. Photos should speak for themselves.... This should be warning to anyone wanting to modify their stock flywheels, and make them lighter. JUST DON'T!!!!

how many LB were eliminate to the flywheel ? I eliminate 5 LB but hasn''t mount it

strange, never seen anything like it around here. pretty common thing get some weight off the stock flywheell on hondas.

but they seem to past the limits of them flywheels. too nasty for me eyes.

it looks like they cut a ton off thier OE piece.

i dropped 3lbs off mine and there was room for more to be dropped, things look great on this one.

my flywheel and the rest of the bottom end is out of town being worked on and i'll post pictures soon.

you have however, inspired me to use a scatter sheild.

i would like to know which forum this came from caues i'd like to ask how much was taken off.

just for perspective, the OE flywheel is about 15lbs and the most i would take off is about 5lbs.

the pieces in the pics look like they've cut a lot more then that.

the key is also to chanfer the ends of the cut area to blend from one surface to another and not cut staight into the flywheel.

the other factor is if the rebalanced the flywheel of if they just cut it down and slapped it back in.

like efrain said that is strange and uncommon.

Whats the flat style lemans flywheel weight?

i don't have one to give you an exact number but becuase it needs to fit the same basic dimention it cant be much different.

Well I'll just weight mine..forgot I had a flat and dish style less than 15ft away from me

Most likely too much weight reduction and poor balancing. Good God, I'm keeping the heavy one.
